Finally a break in the frigid cold. The start of the first Fireside Chat of 2014 was greeted with a temperature of 63 degrees.

Nearly 100 guests gathered to sample Jack Winburn's famous burgoo and visit the tavern where hot chocolate and hot cider awaited the visitors. Finally it was time to sit back and enjoy the fire in the blockhouse.

Fort Boonesborough Foundation Vice President  Larry Disney started things off by promoting the Foundation's latest raffle. He was followed by Park Manager Rob Minerich who addressed the crowd, telling them about upcoming events at the fort. After thanking everyone for coming Minerich reminded the audience that the Chats are only made possible by the Fort Boonesborough Foundation and then introduced the night's speaker  - Scott New as Daniel Boone.

Boone greeted everyone and thanked them for thanked them for making their 'long journey to Kaintuck." The year was 1776, it wasn't going to be a very pleasant time for them, for he had received word from WIlliamsburg that we were at war with England. We would all be fighting for our freedom against the British army and most likely several of the local natives.

Some of the new settlers asked Mr. Boone about land they could purchase. With a twinkle in his eye and a slight grin, he informed them that he would be glad to help them at the Transylvania Surveyor Store. Staying in character he answered many , many questions from the new settlers.

Then stepping out of character he was open to all questions. Many hands went up. He took the time to answer each and everyone. This was one of the longer chats but something special was in the air, and Scott New was on top of his game! This was what I, and many of the guests I talked to thought was his absolutely best ever  performance. The crowd just couldn't get enough, but  all good things must end and so di this perfect day for visitors at Fort Boonesborough.
