Daniel Boone Visits the Fireside Chats 2016

Each year the Fireside Chats bring presentations to the audience associated with the 18th Century or Fort Boonesborough. And no Chat is better attended or more appropo to the Fort than a presentation by Daniel Boone.

In 2016 Kevin Hardesty appeared as Daniel Boone for the first time at the fort. Hardesty is the newest Daniel Boone portrayer for the Kentucky Humanities Council’s Chautauqua program. Hardesty comes to the council with an acting background. Like all Chautauqua performers he worked with local historians to perfect his portrayal. Full of enthusiasm he filled the stage area with his presence. A nice touch in the program was involving the crowd in repeating Indian phrases in the Shawnee language. For after all, with all of Boone’s time in the wilderness and during captivity with the Shawnee Boone would have been a bit conversant in the language.

There were Foundation Volunteers waiting with the prepared foods. In the tavern were games and music with Jon and Tina Hagee. After dinner the tables were cleared and Bill Farmer introduced the speaker - Daniel Boone.
