This was by far the best and most successful Siege Weekend we have ever had. We have always had great support from the re-enactor community and this year’s support far exceeded all of our expectations. I would like to personally thank all the re-enactors that came to Fort Boonesborough to make this such a special event.

We have always had outstanding portrayals of Daniel Boone and Blackfish and this year was no exception. Dr. Harold Raleigh as Daniel Boone and Michael Fields as Chief Blackfish both did a fantastic job. With some additions to the battlefield and some changes in the programing it made for a most memorable event.

Saturday we set a Siege attendance record with over 1000 visitors through our gates and our first ever nite battle on Saturday evening brought 500 visitors to the fort.

One of the favorite new program features was the 18th century cannon demonstrations by The Painted Stone Settlers. Spencer Northup also did a great first person presentation each day of a frontier farmer.

The opening of the new museum at the Fort is a great addition to the educational experience at Boonesborough, with original 18th century artifacts, including a

hand written note by Daniel Boone. Until the first of November, there will also be a special collection of artifacts on loan from collector Mel Hankla.

Over 750 school children were treated to the educational experience of their life on Friday.

Next September will mark the 230th Anniversary of The Siege of Boonesborough of 1778. It will be another very exciting event here at the fort. School day will be Friday, September 19th with the main event Saturday and Sunday, September 20 & 21, 2008. There will again be a night battle and re-enactors that attend will receive a commemorative medallion.

Thanks again to everyone that participated in this year’s re-enactment of The Siege of Boonesborough. Programming at the fort would not be the same without the presence of the re-enactors. Looking forward to 2008!
