A custom case was built to hold the antler

DSCN5138

Foundation members Elizabeth and George Chalfant spearheaded the effort to study and preserve the antler.

FamilyFile0019

Members of the Fisher Family who have held the antler since the late 1800s were on hand for the unveiling of the antler.

In addition to preserving the historic antler, the foundation had a replica of the antler produced. It will be used for demo purposes and school visits etc. Pictured above is Dana McCall a Winchester artist who hand painted the replica to exactly copy the colorings of the original.

File0016

Visitors can view the antler during fort hours. The case sits in the Transylvania Store. In addition to a brochure for visitors, a slide presentation above the case explains more about the antler. Also in the store is a book for purchase examining the journey of the 18th century antler from then to today.

The original Fort Boonesborough was built by Daniel Boone and his men in 1775
